When lots of people who have at some point been games console players look back at their youth, then it seems so great back then. Every little thing as a child seemed bigger and better than when you grow up. That is of course apart from sports and NHL games for Xbox & Playstation game consoles. In the last thirty years we have been privileged to benefit from the advances in technology.
You don't see any kids these days that could get excited about pushing a little white dot around the screen that is supposed to be a puck.The matchstick men that were supposed to resemble a fully padded out Ice hockey player have gone too. Kids still want to play games that they perceive as fun though.
Not all progression in presentation means that you will end up with a better game. Lots of the time all you need to enjoy yourself is the basic shapes but you need something. Something like speed and or accuracy to test your reflexes and skill.
The greatest games ever played were not great because they were visually stunning even if they really were. They were played over and over because people enjoyed playing them. Having a really great and playable game is much more fun than looking at something that is just pretty and can hardly move. While both of these games had the very best levels of playability, they really paid little attention to detail with the presentation. The genius that invented either of those really understood what makes people tick. Sadly their talents will be missed but they paved the way forward for sports and action games makers.
In this day and age, games console hockey games are so far advanced that if they get any better then they'll be in the room with us. You never know, with the growing popularity of 3D TVs you may see something like a 3D hockey game before long. That technology is probably already with us it's just a case of making it affordable.
The continued progression has seen hockey games and in particular NHL titles catch up with the rest of the sports games out there. In fact NHL games are rapidly becoming one of the most popular team sports games on any platform.
People and especially the younger generation of today are extremely luck to be able to play NHL games for Xbox & Playstation game consoles the way that they do. So much has been done over years of development that it's hard to comprehend what early games were like. Suffice to say they were cumbersome at best.
